Gaps (Solitaire)

Other Names: Montana Solitaire

Gaps is a solitaire card game using a deck of 52 playing cards. The aim of the game is to arrange cards in suit from deuce to king.

At the begining the cards are dealt into 4 rows of 13 cards each. Each row begins with a deuce. The aces are then removed to create 4 gaps. These gaps can be filled by a card which is a rank heigher than the card to the left or a rank lower than the card to the right and of the same suit. A gap at the begining of a row can be filled with a deuce.

The game is played in this fashion until no more moves are possible. The cards which are not in order are collected and redealt to 4 rows leaving a gap at the end of each row sequence. If no sequence has been formed at some row then the gap is left at the first position. Three redeals are allowed in the game.

The game is won when all 48 cards have been arranged in suit sequences from deuce to king.
